Puppies Floppy brown hair, totally dull matt black eyes. Who would look at that Puppy? Tutting, he moved onto the next one. Short blonde hair, big blue eyes and a happy grin, Perfect! He looked up over the cages and the shop assistant came over, nodding all the while. “She’s a gorgeous one I tell you, looks a lot like you!” He furrowed his blond eyebrows and ran his fingers through his floppy blonde hair. He blinked his charming blue eyes and flashed a cheesy, but charming grin. The puppy was handed to him, and she immediately licked the boy’s nose, happy to have an owner. ”I’ll call her Perfect. She’s gonna fit in brilliantly at the house!” He said, pronouncing his double ‘l’ with a noticeable ‘w’. The Shop assistant smiled, cashing up all the goods together and reading out the price. A man in a suit, the boy’s father paid casually and they left the shop, hopping into the Mercedes, off to the family mansion.
Perfection A large sigh filled the room, and Perfect looked up at the boy, who was oogling over a magazine. ”Ruff!” She said, and received a pat on the head, wobbling her ears back and forth making her look like her whole skin was moving. “Yeah, I know Girl. She’s pretty isn’t she?” He held out the magazine, a school brochure. A girl in a perfectly done uniform, with mousy hair and shy brown eyes stood smiling, holding an A grade design product. Perfect stuck her nose at the picture and sneezed. The boy laughed and placed the magazine on his side table. ”GGGGUUUYYYYYY GET YOUR BUTT DOWN HERE THIS MINUTE AND FEED THE RUDDY DOG!” Was a bellow from downstairs, worthy of a street banana seller. ”ALRIGHT ALREADY, IM COMING!” Guy said, shuffling off the bed and leading Perfect downstairs by the collar. When he reached the bottom of the stairs, his Mum was standing waving the empty dog bowl around. Guy took it and filled up the dog bowl, muttering curses under his breath.
Pre-Monday blues. Running upstairs, not bothering to listen to Perfect’s snuffling of dinner, Guy went into his bedroom slamming the door like every moody teenager does. He threw himself onto the bed and the springs creaked and moaned. Picking up the magazine, he found the well read page about his dream girl. The most well known, articulate, shy, geeky and of course the least popular girl in school. He kissed the picture and turned off the light, preparing for dreams of dates with Delilah. Suddenly the image of her was replaced with the many girls he received offers from daily. Finally it settled on one disturbing, and reoccurring image. Bobby, in a bikini, drunk off of his head. There would be no sleep tonight.
Bikini Bobby ”GUY!” A rugby tackle flew at him from below, making both boys fall into a crumple on the floor. Laughter flew through the crowd Guy was talking to, and a few girls shrieked as they almost got hit with a flying shoe. ”What the hell?!?! Bobby!” Guy said, rearranging his cap and dusting down his clothes. A beaming boy stood up, lanky and spotty. He was the class clown, and always the first to laugh at himself. Guy’s best friend ever since they first met in Primary school, and ever since they had got drunk together, picked up chicks together, done homework together, got even more drunk together…. ”Dude you look awful…” Bobby said, poking at the bags under Guy’s eyes. Flapping him off, Guy pulled his cap down further. ”I couldn’t sleep, thanks to bloody nightmares of a certain drunk somebody in my sisters bikini.” He made a noise like retching in the back of his throat. Bobby laughed, wiggling his backside pretending to be a woman. ”Does my butt look big in it?” He asked, pouting as Guy just shook his head dismally. “Just shut up and let’s go do this thing ‘kay?”
DILs A note flew and hit the back of Guy’s hand. The handwriting was feminine, dotted with hearts and kisses all over. It must be another offer. He sighed and braced himself to feel very guilty. Guy, it’s Laurie again. Are you sure you aren’t free Friday night? Please go out with me. Xxx He crumpled it up and wrinkled his nose in Laurie’s direction. She turned away with twinkling wet eyes and her friend gave him ‘the evils’. Bobby spotted the note and kicked Guy’s shin for attention. ”’Nother one?! Good god boy, you should find a girlfriend just to make them back off. Those DIL’s will start making a Burn Guy group soon.” He tutted and doodled on his book. There were various girls’ names and a tally of the amount of girls he’d slept with in the bottom corner. It had overflowed it’s little box and was now quite large. By each new line there were comments like: Needs bikini wax; too eager; NIIICEEE and Never let me do that ever again EVER! ”What the heck is a DIL?” Guy asked, tilting his head to the side. ”I made it up, Desperate in Love. I was gonna call it DGILWC Desperate Girls in love with Guy but then I decided DIL sounds better.” He nodded as if to say that was that, and then both boys fell silent.
You’re a DIL Delilah walked down the hall with her head down, glasses falling off her nose and hair in a messy bun. Her walk was slightly off a straight line, since she was hauling a tonne of books around. ”Oof!” She said, walking straight into Guy. He immediately began to pick up the books, keeping his eyes averted from her face, just in case he blushed like a stupid school kid. “Thanks…” She muttered, taking the books off him and piling them up again. He nodded and stopped her just as she was about to walk away. ”I…er…need help with some school work…I’m staying on after school. You’ll be in the Library, right?” He asked, stammering and feeling his face grow hot. ”Don’t you have some stupid party to go to?” She said sarcastically, turning on her heel and walking away. Bobby bounced up behind Guy, closing his dripping mouth and patting his head. ”Poor Guy. You’re such a DIL for her….Face it, Delilah is too smart for a dumbo like you.” ”Shut up Bikini Boy….”

Staying on Guy prowled through the corridors, looking desperately for any sign of Delilah. She seemed to have ran away from the library after she found out Guy knew where she was. Now it was a hunt. He opened doors, apologising to teachers for interrupting meetings and getting strange stares from the couples eating each others faces in dark classrooms. He rubbed his eyes after seeing yet another hungry couple, tired from looking. When he opened his eyes, almost nose to nose with him was Laurie. ”Hullo.” She said, making his gasp and jump back in surprise. She grabbed his arm, stroking his shoulder teasingly. ”Wh-wha-what are you doing here?!” He asked, only to receive a finger in front of his lips. ”Shhh, Laurie means no harm.” She rubbed his arm again and he began to take slow steps away. She dragged harder, making him fall against her. They tumbled, Laurie hitting her back off the wall and letting go of his arms. Guy ended up pinning her against the wall by her shoulders, his hands holding her down as he flopped against her uselessly. She blushed and lifted her leg slightly so it brushed the inside of his thigh. Shocked, he could do nothing but stand motionless.
Broken Dignity A kick in the joint of his knee brought him down, so he was kneeling in front of Laurie is as she shrieked. ”You absolute brute, prying on innocent girls like Laurie.” Was an angry voice from above him. He looked up and got a slap. ”What the -?!?” He said, lying on his back in the hallway. Over him stood Laurie, blushing and holding down her skirt, and Delilah, hands on hips and fuming. He suddenly lost his tongue and simply let his mouth flop open. From this angle you can almost see her p- ”Stop drooling you Pervert! Laurie come with me, you don’t need to listen to this vein narcissist. Let him slobber over some other girl’s cleavage. Sticking his head up your skirt! Ooo he’s lucky I’m not report--…” The voices died away and he rubbed his cheek. Slapped by Delilah. He just got slapped by Delilah. In disbelief, he lay in the corridor, receiving many strange stares as people stepped over him. He eventually got up, trying to gather what was left of his dignity and drag it home.
Rumours ”Did you hear about Guy?” ”Yeah I heard he groped Laurie and tried it on with Delilah!” ”No, I heard that he stuck his head up her Laurie’s skirt!” ”No way… That’s just a step too far.” ”Mmmhmmm, he’s sinking low. I’m not even sure if I like him anymore.” ”Oh come on, he’s still hot! And maybe being a bit pervy isn’t a bad thing…” ”Oh my god! You still like him after what he did to Laurie?” ”Shut up, she’s coming.” ”Hi Laurie.” ”Hey…” ”We heard about what went on with Guy…” ”Nothing happened! ” ”Oh come on Laurie, we all know how terrible he was to you.” ”I have to go.” ”…” ”… She was totally lying, we know what was going on.” ”’Course you do…” ”Don’t roll your eyes at me! My sources are very reliable!” ”What? Bobby? Like he knows anything!” ”Shut up! He’s not stupid or anything….” ”I cannot believe this…” ”What?” ”You fancy him too!” ”Oh Shut up, you know that was just a fling.” ”Good lord, you love the Bikini Boy.” ”Oh Just shut up.”

TWO WEEKS LATER
Party Time “Hey Gay I hear you’re the local perv now. You better be leaving Laurie alone or you’ll be tasting knuckle sandwich.” ”You have no idea how cheesy that sounds, Silly Billy” Guy rocked back on his chair dangerously, yawning and checking out his nails for dirt. Billy growled and stormed off, steam practically leaving his body. His thugs following him obediently, just as Bobby danced into the room. ”PARTEEYY!” He squealed, sticking one finger in the air and striking the night fever pose. His face dropped as he saw Guy. His arms went limp and he slumped over, watching Guy rock backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards. ”What is up with you…” Bobby moaned, poking Guys forehead as he rocked forwards. Guy snuffled and slapped Bobby’s hand away. “Dude you are NOT still huffing about that skirt slip! That was friggin two WEEKS ago!!! Cheer the hell up! It makes you look more guilty if you slump about kicking dirt.” He sat on Guys desk, one leg on either one of the arm of Guys swinging chair. Guy stopped swinging. ”See! Now that’s bettAAAA!!! WATCH IT!” Guy fell forwards, his head falling on the desk, just missing Bobby’s …..well…..you can guess this part. Guy groaned and his shoulders shook, Bobby slowly getting off and putting his arm round Guys shoulder. He shook the limp body vividly and poked him in the ears. ”….*Sniff*….Delilah….slapped me. And Laurie hates me. Nobody fancies me anymore.” He wiped his nose on Bobby’s arm. ”You have WFS, withdrawal from sex. You need a night out. There is a party going on tonight, Laurie won’t be anywhere near you, I promise. Get to Billy’s house at...” ”Billy?! He hates me! He won’t let me go!” Guy interrupted. ”Idiot, people always invite the person they hate so they can show off about how great their party is, of course you got an invite. Here.” He shoved an invite into Guy’s open mouth, leaving the room with a wink and blowing a kiss. ”See you at seven, my little kitty!” He called, wiggling his bum as he left the room. Guy simply gawped…
Confusion of kisses. The music thudded, drumming your heart to the pounding beat of the music. People danced with blank expressions, searching for a sensation, any sensation. Couples in the corners kissed and slid hands into places nobody would rather see. Girls danced in groups together, waving around scarves and glow in the dark wristbands. Invites scattered the floor along with cups and streamers. The cram of people made it hard to breathe, and the heat choked the air if you could gasp for any in the first place. Guy stumbled forwards, drunken and wobbling. His unsteady steps made him fall into many people, laughing and shouting profanities with a chorus of singing streaming from Bobby’s lips. ”GIRRLSS JUST WANNA HAVVE FUU-UNNN WOOAAAHH GIRLS THEY JUST WANNA HAVE FFUUUUNNNNNnnnnn!” They held onto each other and took turns piggy backing their way into a small empty room. They slumped onto a couch together, singing and slurring the rest of the words to the well known song. After finished the final note, then sighed and leant back. Guy giggled manically, staring at the ceiling and Bobby played with a party popper, blowing it up in his eye. ”AWCH!” He screamed, pulling streamers from his lashes. Guy snorted and continued to laugh, helping to pull off a blue piece of confetti. The music changed a slow song, one from their favourite movie, Space Jam. They looked at each other with insane grins and sparkling eyes. They sung along to I believe I can fly, and then Bobby got up, pretending to jump and fly. He fell, stumbled and ended up on Guy’s lap. The music continued to twinkle and sing, and then both fell silent, looking at each other lustfully. Bobby leant in, his hand sliding around the back of Guys neck, twirling his hair in one hand. Guy’s eyes closed and his lips pursed, tilting his head to the left. With the open gesture, Bobby moved in and their lips brushed tenderly at first, until they were locked in a passionate kiss. When the music stopped and many people started talking about receiving their coats, they broke away, peering at each other curiously through half open eyes. They were drunk on alcohol and lust. Bobby coughed and slid off Guy’s lap, touching his lips in confusion. Footsteps were heard outside and they snapped away from each other as someone appeared in the door.
Silhouette ”D…D…D-Delilah?!?!” Guy shouted, Bobby gawping and shaking his head, mouthing words at her, silently. She shook her head and her hand slowly covered her mouth, shaking with shock. ”Guy…Bob…Were you? No…no...” She muttered, grabbing a black coat and turning on her heel. Guy felt himself sober up and raced after her. Bobby slung himself back in his chair and sighed. ”Will that boy ever learn?” He murmured from under his hand. ”What boy?” Laurie said, standing in the doorway. Her silhouette cast a shadow in front of Bobby. Her curves were perfectly outlined and a thin red dress draped off of her, the straps falling down loosely over one shoulder. She stroked the wood of the doorframe and walked forwards, slowly and surely. Bobby smiled and his eyes narrowed at her. ”Are you flirting with me?” He asked, and Laurie fell onto her knees in front of him. She bowed her head and her hair fell forwards, sticking to her bright red lips. ”I’ve come to realise something, Bob. Guy may be a jerk, but he did pick some good friends, and I’ve fallen for one of them. You.” Bobby sat forwards and took her hands, stroking her skin and kissing her fingertips. He raised her head, pulling her chin towards him. Their lips met and he pulled her onto the couch with him. Gradually, the night wore on, and people left. Guy never did return to that party. Bobby followed the curve of Laurie’s waist, kissing along her back, in-between every bone in her spine. She laughed nervously as he reached her neck, and he lay beside her, arms around her like a protective cage. ”I love you” She whispered, but only to receive silence.
Confessions of a Prince ”Delilah! Wait! I can explain!” Guy shouted into the night, puffed out after chasing her two blocks. She stopped and twirled round, the anger on her face made Guy stop in his tracks. Tears ran down her face and her lip wobbled, her chin shaking with anger. ”It’s not you who has to explain!” She shouted at him, her hands curling into fists and echoes sounding off the swings in the park. He stepped forwards and tried to take her hands, a confused look playing upon his face. ”But I want to! I was drunk, I’m still drunk…but that’s not the point it was an accident! I love you Delilah” Silence was like weights on his shoulders, her face turned away and her eyes closed, searching for an answer on the darkness of her lids. ”He told me he loved me….” She whispered, her eyes snapping open and staring Guy in the face. His arms fell to his sides and his body went limp. Bobby and her? But Bobby had just kissed him, his brows almost merged together with confusion. ”You’re with Bobby?!?!” He shouted, angry and upset. “He didn’t tell you?” She asked quietly, her mousy brown hair tucked behind her ears. The gentle curve of her nose was defined by the shapely glasses that hung there. Guy had bags under his eyes; blonde hair messed up with confetti all over his clothes. He was wearing things from on his floor, and hadn’t slept for weeks. He looked terrible. Delilah turned her back and Guy let her leave, he felt as if every last hope of ever getting his dream girl was slipping away from him. He was slowly becoming a worse person, losing sleep, and even questioning his sexuality. He growled and began to walk away. ”Just go home and forget about me” Delilah cooed, the darkness returning her plea.

Reality Check ”Guy, you look horrible.” Guy poked the mirror. He was drawing on his reflection with toothpaste. He licked his minty finger and looked at where he had outlined all of his bad points. Finally, he wiped it down and went downstairs. It was the weekend luckily, so he didn’t have to endure the rumours that flew around the school. Some were that Guy and Bobby had sex, some were that Laurie gave herself to Bobby, which seemed almost insane. There was one rumour, which was not half true and half false, it was all true. That was that Bobby and Delilah had been going out for a while now. Guy walked into the doorway and rubbed his shoulder. Daydreaming was dangerous while moving, he noted mentally. Guy’s mother looked at him and poured some coffee, her face twisted in disgrace. She poured one herself and stood across the breakfast bar from Guy. He raised his eyes, his pupils adjusting to the light. ”You look like someone just broke your damn heart, tell.” She sipped her drink and Guy looked at her confused. Neither of his parents had ever taken an interest into his life, and suddenly his Mum wanted him to tell all of his dark secrets. He looked very superstitious as first, but his mums penetrating look made him spill all. ”There’s a girl called Laurie who fancies me, and I like Delilah, but I accidentally stuck my head up her skirt and now she hates me, Laurie thinks I’m a perv so she doesn’t like me anymore. At the party me and bobby made out, and I kinda enjoyed it. Now I’m freaking out cause I kissed my best mate, and Delilah saw and I admitted I like her to her face and it turns out her and bobby have been at it behind my back this whole time, that’s why he told me I could never get a girl like that.” For a long time, both were silent, Guy panting because of his long rant. His mum sipped some coffee. ”On second thoughts.” Sip. “I don’t wanna know.” And she left. Guy banged his head on the table repetitively.
Betrayal “I’ll see you in Maths?” ”Sure. See you.” Laurie tip-toed and kissed Bobby lightly on the lips. Bobby grinned and turned to see Guy coming. He hardly recognized him. Guy’s locks had been chopped and died. He stalked over in a large black jacket, his hair cut into a brown cropped style. A fringe flopped over his eyes and the back was stuck up with gel. He looked different, and was holding a helmet. ”Dude? Like what happened to you Dude!” Bobby went and punched Guy’s shoulder like usual. This time Guy returned it twice as hard. Caught off guard, he stumbled and fell onto the ground. Guy stood over him, grabbing his shirt and pulling him up to speak. ”I made you what you are, without my help you would have never have met Delilah or Laurie.” He snarled, and punched Bobby round the face. Bobby turned his head back round, laughing slowly and surely, his kicked up and caught Guy’s leg. He fell sideways onto his knees and glared at Bobby, his eyes flaring. Bobby leapt up, wiping blood from his lip. He kicked Guy in the side, and he doubled over. ”Just because you fucking can’t get one girl, and I’m realin’ in the Babes.” He began to walk around Guy, tormenting him with words, kicks and eyes that pierced the heart. ”You’ve gone to the dumps, Man. Girls think you’re a perv, and now you’ve gone and changed your shitty style to that.” He bent down and Guy closed his eyes, willing him to stop. ”You’ve even lost your friend.” Bobby hissed, punching him in the stomach and walking off. Guy coughed onto the pavement, his brown hair sticking to his cheek which was bleeding heavily. He lay there for a moment, and then saw red high heeled shoes appear in front of him. Confused and concussed, he passed out.
Scarlet and Crimson Guy came around to find himself lying on a desk. He blinked and looked to the side, a whiteboard was there, covered in Algebra. In the corner was a name of a teacher. Miss Scarlet? He looked the other way to be grossed out by a crimson coloured cloth. It had been stained with his blood. He sat up and put one hand to his head. The room was bland and white, like every other classroom. The door was large and brown, and has a little note on the back. He shuffled off the desk and looked at the note.
I’ve gone to find a plaster for your forehead, there’s a mirror in the drawer if you want to check out the damage. DON’T LEAVE THE ROOM!! xxx Sarah
The name was scrawled with a bundle of kisses and a few signatures, and a happy face. He smiled to himself and wondered who this girl Sarah was. He went to the drawer and picked out a small mirror with a kiss mark on it. Looking at himself, he almost didn’t recognize his own reflection. His messy brown hair was combed and looked rather neat; he had a long cut from the end of his eyebrow down his cheek. He had a split lip and on closer inspection, a few large bruises on his stomach. He sat on the end of the table inspecting his lip for a while, when the door opened. His mouth hit the floor.

Tantalizing Teacher A woman was standing at the door. She was wearing a skin tight dress which hardly covered much of her at all. She was curvy and busty, her waist was miniature but the hourglass figure was gorgeously highlighted by the scarlet red dress. She had brown hair, which curled into perfect curls and bounced about her shoulders. She walked with a noticeable strut and when she neared, Guy noticed her eyes as dark as night, and her lips were full of volume and a bright red like her dress. She wore matching shoes that was so high; he couldn’t believe how she walked in a straight line. She went over to Guy and stroked his cheek, making him wince but still he was too busy staring at her cleavage to notice. She bit her lip and her white teeth were perfectly straight and shining. She was like the embodiment of gorgeous. ”My name’s Miss Scarlet, but you can call me Sarah. I found you passed out on the floor and have decided to take you under my wing.” She spoke in a voice like absolute silk. Guy continued to gawp silently, and then made a loud slurping noise. ”Are you going to be a gentleman and introduce yourself when your done staring at my cleavage?” She asked, waved her hand in front of his eyes. He was roused from his dreaming and looked her in her curiously black eyes. ”Sorry, that dress just screams respect me as a teacher. I’m Guy.” He said sarcastically. Scarlet chuckled almost tempting him to do things people would never think to do to a teacher. ”I like you. It’s a shame I only teach the sixth formers.” He walked around the side of the desk and began to place the plaster to the side of his head. Her touch on his cheek sent a shiver up his spine and he sat up a little straighter. ”All patched up. I haven’t told on Bobby yet, but that kids in for it soon. He looked pretty messed up too, but he just walked out of school after this girl came and slapped him.” She tapped her lip with one finger thoughtfully and Guy’s eyes lit up. ”Delilah…” He whispered her name, savoring the moments when they made eye contact and he was the one to break away smiling secretly. Scarlet clicked in front of his face sharply and he was once again brought out of dreaming. ”You know her? She takes my physics even though she’s your year. Amazingly talented. Quite pretty too, it’s surprising she hasn’t been take…hey! Where do you think you’re going?” She went and stood in front of the door which Guy had been calmly walking over to while she spoke. ”What?” He said in a dull and confused tone. ”Don’t I even get thanks for my generosity?” She said, pursing her lips in mock disappointment. Guy blinked dimly at her and then flicked his fringe out of his eye. Bowing, he boomed a loud thanks. ”Danke, Merci, Domo and thank-you!” Scarlet stepped aside and wished him luck as he began to run down the corridor.
Barfly Mr Deep was a very sombre man, he always was on time and never was happy. He seemed like the kind of person with a stable and professional family. But of course, this is a real world and nothing is actually what it seems nowadays. In work, he was the invisible nerd. But out of work and home, he was the one with all the ladies, all the time and one heck of a heavy biker jacket. He flittered from pub to pub, until finally falling into one with a drunken stumble. A woman was behind the bar, and it was gone midnight. She wore a red apron and her dark hair was pulled back into a tight knot. Her lips were perfectly accentuated with a red lipstick. She wiggled her finger in time with her hips and the beat of the music. On seeing him, she waved frantically and kissed him heavily on the cheek when he arrived. ”Heya babe, anything good on the menu tonight?” ”I’ve been reading up on that book you gave me, and I’m thinking of the one on page 2…” She began to run a finger down his hairy chest, and he purred back at her, wiggling his eyebrows in a slight suggestion. ”Sounds like a bundle of fun.” He said, and the woman went to ask for a break. They disappeared upstairs for a while and later, when they returned the pub was empty. It was completely night time and there was a note on the till. ”Sarah, You Owe Me One” She read aloud and the man laughed heartily, embracing her and nuzzling her neck before leaving.
Mistrust Bobby flung himself onto the bed, tending his bloody lip. It was only midday, and his Dad had gone to stay at another hotel again. ”Probably screwing that stupid barmaid again…” He muttered, admiring a particularly shaped bruise on his hip. His mum came into the room and he quickly hid his marks. She gave him a queer look and moved away, taking a pile of dirty washing with her. Bobby hissed and grabbed his stash from under the bed. Closing the door with a gentle click, he moved to the open window. It was a built in window seat, and he made himself comfortable. The weed was fresh, and of high quality. He licked his lips and placed the freshly rolled joint between his lips. He felt as if he was stepping into a well known dance. His feet took positions and he felt his heart carry the beat he was longing for. His head began to thud, and he passed out on his bed for not the last time. When he awoke, it was about the time when people were going home. At three O’clock exactly, the house began to shake and he heard the door go. His house was a bungalow, and when the door went, the whole house went. Jumping dizzily to his feet, he sprayed himself in various places, mouth, shirt, feet, pits and ‘other’ before heading to answer. He gawped at the man on the doorstep. His father had come home wrecked, he was beaten and bruised, his pockets turned inside out and his trademark jacket completely torn to pieces. Confused, and still a little high, he stepped aside to be shaken by the shoulders. He father gripped him desperately and simply said. ”Don’t tell Mum.”

The Chase Guy began to fun frantically around the school, looking for Delilah. He checked almost every classroom and had a dangerous run in with Ms Curleh. After embarrassing himself mortifyingly in front of a lower assembly, he sat down and began to punch the poor Buddleia beside him. The flower swayed and he scrunched one of its leave until he felt the juices run down his knuckles. A shadow appeared at his feet and he had sudden De-Ja-Vu. A little girl around aged five was standing with a teddy in front of him. Confused, he reached out to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating. The girl nodded and stepped forwards so he could brush her shoulder. ”She’s not going to come back for you. I hearded her speak. She sayd, ‘Guy did not appreciate my intelligence. He was just too rebellious for me.’ She not want stupid boy. She not want stupid Guy.” He stood up and she cowered away, considering she was only over knee height on him. He bent down to shake her for answers, but a large burly man swept her away before he could even ask her name. He sat down and twiddled his thumbs together, conducting a plan on what to do next. Sick of chasing someone who thought he was stupid, he made a resolve not to fall for her again. He had given up Laurie, and now had given up Delilah. With his female interests dieing out, there was only one last person which he could confide in.
It’s a Dog’s Life Perfect howled and Guy howled along with her. They were having a lot of fun today, being his ‘ill-day’ He had faked being ill to get him a day off alone to sort out his head, (And some unwanted and unfinished coursework) Currently, him and Perfect were sat in the Garden howling along with the neighbours dogs in a melody of random screeches. He lay back puffed out, and Perfect climbed onto his chest clumsily. She licked his chin and he watched a bunny shaped cloud wander over him. She nibbled his hair and he laughed, still exhausted from his little excursion. He stroked her between the ears and she purred in an almost kitten like way. ”Perfect, isn’t life unfair? Mind you, with a life like yours it might kind of be simple. Mine certainly ain’t. Here’s the deal, I still like Delilah, but I’m sick of her putting me down, so that’s kind of off the list. My grades are slowly suffering and Mum absolutely hates that. Dad seems to be out every night and it’s terrible. He’s also gone into this Band phase, and keeps wearing that stupid biker jacket and coming home in the middle of the night waking you up.” She whimpered slightly and he continued to rub her head affectionately. “Now Bobby officially hates me, even though two weeks ago everything was more than fine at the party…” He resisted the urge to shiver as the cold breeze brushed past his bare arm. “I’ve given up on Laurie, same as she did to me, but I still think it was wrong of her to step in the moment something between Bobby and Delilah went wrong. Bobby and Delilah, can you believe it? I can’t. It’s stupid, he’s the class idiot and she’s the most gorgeous, intelligent, modest, interesting and charming girl in the world…” Perfect nudged his slobbery chin and he looked at her. “Okay, maybe I admit that I still like her, but I can’t stand the way she looks at me like I’m dirt! I mean come on, I’m the most popular boy around, it’s not like my name is mud or anything like that.” Perfect jumped off his chest and he sat up just to see her chase the ball uselessly. “What’s the point in talking to you eh? I really should just get back on the road to normality first…” He stood up and wiped his chin on a tree. “Time to get rollin’.” He muttered and moved away from the garden into the house. As he reached the door he heard the bell go around the front. Aware that the front door was locked, he made his way around to the edge gate to see Bobby standing in the doorway. He was covered in blood and his father, Mickey Balone was slumped over his shoulders. Shocked, he opened the door and Bobby looked round. ”He’s been mugged…” He started, but Guy was already beckoning them in.
The Whole Story “…and then this stupid thug jumped out at me and demanded my money. When I said I spent it all at the bar, he didn’t believe me and beat me up.” Mickey tended one of his wounds with a pack of frozen peas as Guy paced the room and Bobby fidgeted in the corner. ”So you were out with my Dad….at a biker club…and my Dad left…?” Mickey nodded encouragingly and Guy continued. “So you went home with the barmaid…and on the way home was mugged? Totally unbelievable.” Guy went and leant his forehead against the doorframe. ”In my defence, you should see that girls rack! It’s like…” He made a crude gesture, only to be quietened by a chorus of “DADD” and “EWW”. ”By the way, after I left, before I was mugged obviously, I saw your Dad in another bar. He was talking to another women. She was all dressed in red, very attract…” He broke off as the door opened and a drunken version of Guy’s dad stumbled through. ”Honey I’m ho…?” He called merrily, stopping as he gazed confused at the gathering of men and boys. “Bobby, you shouldn’t be around here so late. Mickey, I thought you were with the Barmaid tonight…Guy what are you doing up so late?” He put his hands on his hips as he lectured each one of them. Guy balled his fists and threw a punch at his father. He caught square on with his cheek and he stumbled back, shocked at his son’s behaviour. ”You cheater!” Guy shouted, fists flying at his father. Bobby shot out of his seat and silence and wrestled Guy to the ground. “Calm down dude!” He called into his ex-friend’s face. Mickey helped up Guy’s dad and handed him the peas. ”What the hell was that about?” He questioned, and Mickey told him about the woman in red. ”Oh her! That’s Sarah, she’s a teacher at your school, Guy.” ”YOU’RE SCREWING MY TEACHER?!?!”

Fiery tempers Guy flew at his father, fists flailing for the second time in a few minutes. His dad jumped aside and Bobby quickly restrained him once more. Guy screwed up his face in emotional pain. He felt torn between his loyalty to his father and his affection for his mother. ”How could you do this to us?” He said, breaking his arms out of Bobby’s grip and leaning his head against the refrigerator. His father mumbled something and Guy simply banged his fist against the wall to silence him. ”She is a very nice woman…very intelligent and affectionate.” Guy stormed up to his Dad’s face and spat his words at him, full of spite and anger. ”I’m sure she’s AFFECTIONATE! In fact I think you’ve been a little MORE than AFFECTIONATE!” He spat and then went and sat on the stairs. He buried his head in his hands and groaned outwardly. Bobby and his father looked at each other. ”I think we ought to leave.” Mr Balone said, slumping himself over his son’s shoulders. Bobby nodded and said; ”Tap that.” This usually meant he agreed. He grinned half heartedly at Guy and he tried his hardest to return it, but just made him look like he was in pain. When they left, Guy could almost cut the tension and silence between him and his Dad with a knife. His Dad mumbled something and left into the living room and Guy stormed up the stairs. He was furious with his father for being unfaithful, for being a liar and for betraying the family like this. How could he not have mentioned this? How he could not feel the guilt weighing upon his so strongly his legs would buckle with the weight and he would collapse and spill all? Guy let go of these wistful thoughts and lay on the bed, his head began to spin and he smelled smoke. ‘Was something burning?’ He thought. He looked at his ceiling, his eyes barely prying themselves open. Smoke was spreading over the white swirls, and tainting everything it touched. He jumped to his feet immediately and saw the cupboard opposite. He wrenched the door open and inside his wardrobe stood Bobby, smoking and burning a sweater. He grinned when Guy glared at him, but stumbled out and put out the sweater first. ”Okay I can explain.” ”Start talkin’.” ”I was scared, you know? ‘Cause like, you coulda got upset ‘n’ killed yourself. I dunno, I worry ‘boutcha nowadays.” He raised his hands and shrugged hard, pulling an awkward face. Guy’s features softened and he almost felt the urge to hug the jittery boy before him. Obviously he resisted like every good, not-gay boy does.
Forgiveness and Revelations “So does this mean you forgive me?” Bobby kicked a stuffed animal away and Perfect chased after it with a squeak. Guy sighed and punched Bobby’s knee, grinning at him. They touched knuckles and the Bobby kicked Guy’s shin affectionately. Guy frowned as he remembered what had happened a few weeks ago. He ran his fingers through his limp brown died hair and nibbled his lip nervously. ”About what happened a while ago, at Billy’s party…” He started wondering what his point was, then luckily at that moment Bobby decided to interrupt casually. ”I’d totally forgotten it mate. It meant nothing, right?” He connected eye contact with Guy momentarily and then they both looked away coughing heavily and muttering things that came out as a trail of manly rabble and profanities. They gave each other a manly hug and Bobby got up to leave. He turned around when he reached the door and leant in the doorway, somehow Guy already knew what was coming. ”Listen, about Delilah…We never meant to get together. She was in the library after school once and she looked really jumpy and upset, so I just comforted her and one thing let to another… and just it never meant to happen. She told me why she was waiting there, and it was because you had mentioned coming with her that day. “ Guy’s mouth fell open as he replayed the moment where she quite obviously rejected him. “I don’t know if that helps in any way, but chillax man.” Guy grinned and Bobby made a questioning gesture. ”That’s the longest you have spoke in ages.” Guy said and patted his back, then lead him to the door. When the door closed, he leant against it and his Dad walked past. He was roused from his surprise back into anger and again stormed up into his room again. When he got there, he reached for the school magazine and the picture of the smiling girl which help his hopes. ”Is there still a chance?” He asked the empty room, only to receive a whistle of silence.

TWO WEEKS LATER
Emotions Fuel Words That Thursday, when Guy decided to return to school, people had forgotten about almost everything that had happened. Sure, he had lost a little of his status and people didn’t care as much about his personal life anymore. Girls had lost interest as he began to hide behind sunglasses, and his luscious blonde hair had been died to brown. It was fading away now, and the sparkle was slowly creeping back into his looks. The dip in his popularity had gave him more privacy. No-one noticed when he skipped a class to write a poem about his troubles, and his ever-growing love for Delilah. He had passed her many times in the corridors only to receive an awkward glance and a quiver of her lips which he took as a smile. In fourth lesson, he began to curl into the only armchair in the library. It was hidden between rows of books and most people missed it as it blended with the carpet. He stroked the worn blue cover and pulled a loose string from the arm. “When she smiles my heart skips a beat. When she laughs, it’s an amazing feat. Her solid smile, her marble skin. When I wonder how she’s been, That smile will slip, her frown revealed. I want to protect her, a human shield. The pain which hurts her, steals her smile, Hurts me and moulds me, all the while…” He lay down his pen on the new notebook and flicked through the pages of poems and stories. His creative surge has been mostly poured onto these pages, and his emotions and feelings inspired the tone and mood for every word. There were short haikus and long winded limericks fuelled by passion, humour, confusion and rage. He lay the book down under his chair and set his watch for half an hours time, when finally he could go home and curl into a ball with Perfect, letting his thoughts wash over him….he drifted slowly into his sleep, wistfully dreaming of fluffy beds and loveable dogs.
Panic A beeping noise roused him from his sleep and guy looked around, shuffling to look like he wasn’t just asleep, drooling and dreaming. He stifled his watch with wide innocent eyes as people peeked over the bookcases to glare at him. Gathering his bag, he got up and glanced that the clock. The librarian frowned at him as he left and he heard a familiar voice behind him calling his name. “Guy! Guy!” someone hissed from behind him. He turned quickly, wiping his mouth. He was an inch away from Delilah’s face. Gasping to himself, he blushed violently underneath his messy fringe. He raised one hand to cover his mouth and Delilah stammered an explanation. It was only a murmur to him and in his panic to escape, he almost squealed at the top of his voice. “I have to go!” He swung his bag over his shoulder a little more and began to run out of school as the end of the day bell began to ring loudly. Once round the corner he leant against it and breathed outwards deeply. He was hopelessly and desperately in love with Delilah. So much he couldn’t face her without gasping at her incredibly beauty that hid behind those thick glasses. He almost fainted as he felt her sweet breath against his face as she spoke in that soft, soothing voice. He was drifting off into his dreams when he got inspiration for a poem. Grabbing a pen that was handily nearby he rummaged in his bag for the notebook. After a moments rummaging, he began to panic. It was missing, the notebook was gone. Realisation hit him in the face and he turned around with his face flush with nerves and embarrassment. His feet began to take him of their own accord. They hit the floor faster and faster until he reached the library again. “Delilah?!” He whispered urgently, only to receive glares from the staff there. He slid down against the wall until he was sat on the floor. She had his notebook, she had his heart, she had his mind. She had him and he couldn’t have her.
Limbo The waiting game is the hardest game to play. You don’t know when you’ve won, or lost or when it begins or ends. Guy sat twiddling his thumbs throughout the whole of maths. He tried to ignore Bobby and Laurie to his left snuggling and kissing, cooing into each others faces like you would to an ugly monkey-baby. He twinged slightly when a loud smooching noise was heard and tried to avert his gaze from their ‘mmm’-ing and sloppy kissing. Leaning the other way he locked his gaze onto the back of Delilah’s head. She had her hair differently today. It was especially shiny and she had her contacts in today. Her make-up was done to perfection; her hair flowed around her shoulders with bouncy curls that perfectly formed naturally and the smile that was upon her face was warming to his very core. Without warning, she turned and her eyes bored into him for a long moment. He was frozen in her look until finally she smiled and he relaxed. He shoulders began to untense and she gave a cheeky wink, making his heart stop momentarily. She mouthed something at him and he had to get her to repeat it three times as he got too distracted staring intensely at her lips. “Meet me after school. The bakery!” She said and he nodded enthusiastically. He beamed and toyed with a brown hair, nibbling on the end and his eyes flicking to her every other second. His heart began to beat faster and faster as the day began to draw to a close. He closed his eyes and counted down the last five seconds until the bell and almost leapt out of his seat when the bell rang. He had finally won the waiting game.
Cupcakes He ran towards the bakery, excusing himself into the toilets almost immediately after arriving and realising Delilah hadn’t arrived. He looked in the mirror. He looked much healthier recently, his mother had been shoving food down his throat so fast he couldn’t protest and he gained weight steadily. He lifted his shirt and smiled at the flat stomach he had worked hard for. Along with poems, he had taken his mind off the dramas by going to the gym. The pounding of his feet hitting the treadmill and the strain of muscles when he did crunches was satisfying, and the end result was a sculpted mass of muscle which, he must admit, was very appealing. He dropped the school shirt, ruffled his dark hair and examined the roots. He was dieing it back to his normal colour soon, although his roots had hardly come through. He naturally suited dark hair and it made his blue eyes shimmer with blissful happiness. Checking his teeth, he walked out of the bathroom and to the decking chairs outside. Delilah was walking towards him and with every step his head thudded a little more. He practiced saying ‘Hello’ over and over until finally he had the courage to speak. She grinned and clutched the notebook as she approached, waving shyly and her cheeks flushed with soft pink tones. Guy took a deep breath and blurted out a greeting. “Hi Cupcake.” He cursed himself inwardly when he finished and began stuttering apologies. She giggled and covered her mouth, making little hiccup noises between laughing. He watched her and felt warmth flow through him despite the chilly wind nipping his cheeks. The outburst broke the ice and he felt more at ease, his body language relaxing and a smile covered his whole face. “I meant, would you like to get some cupcakes, on me?” He asked, waving a hand through the door and she stepped in, nodding ecstatically. Following her in, he stood at the counter, waiting for orders while she settled and laid the notebook in front of her.

The Key to a Heart Two teens sat warming their hands on coffee cups, munching on cupcakes when the sun sets is seemingly very romantic. But when looking deeper, neither could say more than “Nice food” as they were silenced by warm cheeks and hearts. A small voice piped up once the two plates were empty. “I found your notebook…” Delilah started, and Guy raised his eyes, blowing on his coffee. He lowered his eyes again and Delilah ran her fingers along the table edge nervously. “Your poems are beautiful. I always thought you were stupid, with no talent apart from rejecting every girl and blanking those beneath you.” She raised a hand to stop his protests. “I was wrong. Your poems are just so emotional, so…uplifting. They made even a girl like me feel like someone special. The key to my heart was through words, and yours are the softest and tenderest ever to reach me.” Guy was speechless, he stared at her eyes. His view was no longer blocked by glasses and he could gaze into her watery eyes for hours, feelings overwhelming him. He began to speak, confidence in every word, meaning every syllable and hoping every tone could reach her in the way he wanted. “You are something special. Your eyes are black holes to your heart, deep and yet so far away from reality. The way you speak is like a whisper of the morning breeze. When you wake up in that haze, everything seems so unreal. That’s how I heard your voice. I just wish that I didn’t have to listen to it, I could embrace it, hold it, and maybe even kiss you.” He blushed and closed his eyes, trying to take a deep breath and stop his head from swirling. When he had the courage to open his eyes, Delilah was inches from his face, making him freeze in his place. She brushed his cheek lightly with his lips and a tingle reached up his spine like a hand stroking along his backbone. She laid the notebook in his hand and gathered her things together. When she rose to her feet, she whispered “See you tomorrow” and hurried off, a skip in her step.
Minor Achievement The next day at school, Guy brushed his fingers down every wall, humming a quaint tune and clutching his books to his chest, touching his heart to feel the hurried beat. He was elated, ecstatic and excited, waiting to catch a glimpse of Delilah. When he turned a corner, he saw the familiar face of Bobby and he burst out in an excited whisper. ”I had a date with Delilah last night!” He squealed. Bobby spat out the pen lid and it landed perfectly in the bin, clanging it’s way to the bottom. “You screw ‘er?” He asked, picking his teeth with his nails and licking his lips. “What? No! She kissed my cheek.” He beamed, blushing and touching his cheek protectively. Bobby’s mouth fell open. “Damn, you got me all excited for that? Wow, man you have problems dude. Are you two officially together? Or is this just a thing? What are you doing tonight, you seeing her again?” Bobby leant against the wall next to the water cooler, pulling off a cup from the rack and pressing the tap expertly with one hand. He slurped on the drink, throwing his head back like he was drinking shots. “I don’t know, I haven’t seen her today and I don’t have any lessons with her, so I guess tonight I’m free.” He tapped his chin, thinking lightly and humming in a monotone. Bobby screwed up the cup; slam dunked it into the bin and slapped Guy on the back. “Heard there’s a leaving party for one of the kids in school, everyone is invited. It’s at the big house around the corner from my house. We can take the scooters if you want; Dad’s lent me the keys.” Bobby announced proudly, thumping his chest in achievement. Guy nodded weakly, holding his back and coughing from the impact. “I’ll be there...” He gasped and Bobby wandered off as the time for the next lesson arrived.

Leaving Guy arrived at the party late, it was in full swing, people snogging on corners, dancing on tables, standing upside down and drinking pints of beer from a tube. It was pretty low key really. The place looked pretty clean, only a few bottles dotted on any old table, and even the smokers had been given ash trays and told to sit by the window. He wondered who the house was, it was grand, large and yet modestly furnished with surprisingly normal looking objects. There was a lava lamp in every room and bookcases covered some of the walls. The person was obviously a bit of a nerd. He walked over to one of the walls and ran his finger across the spines of the books. They were smooth and clean, dusted recently. Most were romance novels and a few murder mysteries. He resisted the urge to pick one up and went to take a seat on the sofa, where his rather tipsy friend was. ”Guuyyy!!!!” Bobby shouted excitedly, wriggling out of the two blonde’s arms and standing up to greet him. He hugged Guy, thumping his back and gave him a generous slobbery kiss on the cheek. Guy stepped away, awkward and wiping his face. ”Darling, you were late! I had to give these two pretty girls a ride instead. They’re gonna give me a ride later aswell ain’tcha!” He kissed the two as they playfully pushed him and nibbled at his earlobes. ”What about Laurie?” Guy said in a assertive tone. Slowly, two girls sat up from behind the couch, lipstick smudged over each other’s faces. ”Laurie?” Guy said in disbelief, blinking to try and recognise her. “Hey Guy!” She said, arm around the other girl’s neck affectionately. They lay back down out of sight and Guy shivered, grossed out and disturbed. Moving into the next room he found a table full of food. He admired some of the plates then turned around to face the living room again, munching on a cocktail sausage. Suddenly, his mouth grew dry, his heart burst and his eyes began to water. A banner hung over the living room, and in pink swirly writing were the words. ”Goodbye Delilah, We’ll miss you!”
The Final Chapter At first it had come as a shock and Guy’s feet were rooted to the spot. His realisation swept over him like crashing waves, disturbing the peace of his mind that seconds before had encapsulated his being. Suddenly, it his him like a ton of bricks and he began to move, frantically moving people out of the way to try and find Delilah. He was desperate to find her, to stop her, to find out what was going on. Finally he spotted her through the crowds, hugging some friends and explaining. “I’m flying out to New York tomorrow, I can’t believe it happened too fast!” She spun around and gasped, seeing the bestraggled blonde boy standing there looking desperate. He leant forwards onto her and she caught him roughly. He whispered in her ear in the softest tones, barely audible over the harsh music. “Please….Don‘t leave me…” He felt a tear threaten to fall down his face but soon was brought back to reality when Delilah grabbed his wrists and dragged him into the back garden. “Get a hold of yourself” She said, her eyes glimmering in the moonlight, made even more obvious by her contact lenses. She had a firm angry look in her eye which was at the same time sad and reluctant. She was having doubts about leaving. “Guy. I know that you are something special, something amazing. The words you can pour out of your heart are beautiful, and that’s how I see your soul. In a way, I guess I love you…” She caressed his face and his heart broke in two. “Please...” He said but she placed a finger on his lips. “I am only a chapter in your story… maybe one of the first. You’re going to go on, you’re going to be amazing, you’re going to be unbelievable and most of all, you’ll enjoy every minute of it. I’m leaving, you have no choice in this matter, and frankly neither do I. I’m going, and that’s only the beginning.” She felt a tear roll over her cheek, leaving a trail on salty water all the way down her face. It was like a river of sorrow, carved in the flesh of inexperience. She moved to wipe it away, almost ashamed, but her hand was caught by Guy, a revived life in his eye. He leant towards her, holding her wrists, controlling her body. He slid a hand onto her back, pulling her towards him and leaning down, their lips touched barely, Delilah’s wobbling from shock and from crying but Guy’s jutted forwards, strong and boldly leading the kiss. It was neither of their first kisses, but it was the most memorable. Eyes closed, they moved away after a few seconds and stood for what seemed like an eternity, forehead to forehead, deep in thought. Finally, Guy broke away and stood back, staring at what he had only just won, and then lost, ripping her from his heart. They both nodded and walked different ways, to lead different paths, to continue different stories, to life different lives. The story had really only just begun.
Hey there Delilah What's it like in New York City? I'm a thousand miles away But girl, tonight you look so pretty Yes you do Times Square can't shine as bright as you I swear it's true
Hey there Delilah Don't you worry about the distance I'm right there if you get lonely Give this song another listen Close your eyes Listen to my voice, it's my disguise I'm by your side
